In Mumbai, the first case of a new Omicron XE variant has been discovered.

The WHO issued a warning last week about the new Omicron sub-variant XE, which was discovered in the UK in March.

On Wednesday (April 6), India reported its first case of the new Omicron sub-variant, which was discovered in the United Kingdom last month. In Mumbai, an XE Omicron sub-variant of Covid-19 was discovered. According to BMC, "one case of Omicron's new sub-variant XE was detected in Mumbai."

The Covid-19 variant XE discovered in the UK is a mutation of two Omicron variants of Covid-19, which was responsible for India's third wave in January 2022. According to preliminary findings published on Tuesday in the United Kingdom, the variant maybe around 10% more transmissible than other Omicron mutations.

"The person who tested positive for #XE Variant is a 50-year-old woman who is fully vaccinated, has no comorbidities, and is asymptomatic." She had arrived from South Africa on February 10 with no prior travel history. "When she arrived, she tested negative for the virus." According to a tweet from the Maharashtra PIB.

This comes after health experts on Wednesday downplayed concerns about the XE variant case, saying that despite being around since January, the strain has not caused a surge in cases like Omicron, but advised strict adherence to Covid-19-appropriate actions.
