Parvovirus B19 DNA detection by PCR Amniotic fluid

DESCRIPTION – parvovirus B19 is a human pathogen can be detected in blood over a long period after acute infection. Parvovirus affect children causing rash on face, trunk and limbs

METHODOLOGY – polymerase chain reaction (PCR)

TURN AROUND TIME – 8 days

PATIENT PREPARATION –

COLLECT – lavender (EDTA), pink or serum separator tube

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – separate serum or plasma from cells and transport 1 ml serum, plasma, CSF, synovial fluid, bone marrow to a sterile container. Transfer fresh tissue to a sterile container and freeze immediately

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – frozen and for bone marrow it should be room temperature

STABILITY – ambient: 24 hours; refrigerated: 5 days; frozen: 6 months

UNACCEPTABLE CONDITIONS – heparinized specimens
