Immunophenotyping
DESCRIPTION – immuno-phenotyping is a test in which the cells in a sample of blood or bone marrow are looked at under a microscope to find out if malignant lymphocytes began from the B lymphocytes or the T lymphocytes.
METHODOLOGY – next generation sequencing (NGS)
TURN AROUND TIME – 2 days
PATIENT PREPARATION –
COLLECT – bone marrow, whole blood, tissue or fluid
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – transport 1 ml bone marrow or 5 ml whole blood or 100mg fresh tissue or 100 ml fresh fluid
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – whole blood or bone marrow at room temperature and tissue or fluid at refrigerated
STABILITY – ambient: 48 hours; refrigerated: 48 hours
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – clotted or hemolyzed specimens
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
