DESCRIPTION – this assay is useful for the detection of KRAS, BRAF and NRAS mutations which is associated with shorter progression free survival in colorectal cancer.

PATIENT PREPARATION –

COLLECT – tumor tissue

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue block. Protect the slides from excessive heat

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – room temperature (8-25 degrees C)

STABILITY – ambient: indefinitely; refrigerated: indefinitely

UNACCEPTABLE CONDITIONS – alternate fixative and decalcified specimens

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – samples should reach the lab as soon as possible (2-4 degrees C). if more than 72 hours, then specimen should be frozen preferably at -80 degrees C, and shipped on dry ice
