PATIENT PREPARATION –
COLLECT – serum or plasma separator tube
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – allow the serum to completely clot and ensure the absence of fibrin in serum. Separate the serum from cells within 2 hours of collection and transfer serum to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated
STABILITY – ambient: 24 hours; refrigerated: 5 days; frozen: 15 days
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – specimens collected in citrate anticoagulant
