DESCRIPTION – Rickettsia IgG serology assays are performed using indirect immunofluorescence assay for rocky mountain spotted fever and murine typhus

METHODOLOGY – Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)

TURN AROUND TIME – 4 days

PATIENT PREPARATION –

• COLLECT – serum separator tube
• SPECIMEN PREPARATION – separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection and transfer 1 ml serum to transport tube
• STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated
• STABILITY – ambient: 48 hours; refrigerated: 1 week; frozen: 1 year
• UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – hemolyzed, contaminated and lipemic specimens
