NTRK 1 GENE REARRANGEMENT ASSAY

DESCRIPTION – the NTRK1 gene makes a protein which is essential for the development and survival of nerve cells. When NTRK gene breaks and joins with another gene, it causes mutation which leads to cancer.

METHODOLOGY – fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)

PATIENT PREPARATION –

COLLECT – tumor tissue

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue block. Protect the slides from excessive heat

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – room temperature (18-25 degrees C)

STABILITY – ambient: indefinitely; refrigerated: indefinitely

UNACCEPTABLE CONDITIONS – alternate fixatives and decalcified specimens
